About ODESZA
Adding a heavier beat but keeping the “dreamy” side of indie electronica intact, Seattle duo ODESZA formed in 2012 just before they graduated from Western Washington University. Members Harrison Mills (aka Catacombkid) and Clayton Knight (aka Beaches Beaches) had known each other since they were freshman at the college, but ODESZA didn’t form until their senior year. After graduation, things began to move quickly as 2012 saw the release of their debut album, Summer’s Gone. The year 2013 saw both an EP, My Friends Never Die, plus a tour with, and a remix for, Pretty Lights. A year later they released In Return, an LP from the Counter Records label that topped various online retailers’ electronic album charts. ODESZA toured North America in support of their album, and sold out 28 shows, in addition to performing at over 20 festivals. In 2015, the duo launched Foreign Family Collective in order to give exposure to up-and-coming musicians and graphic artists. A deluxe edition of In Return, including the Little Dragon collaboration “Light” as well as live tracks and instrumentals, appeared later in the year. “Late Night” and “Line of Sight,” the first two singles from ODESZA’s third studio album, were released in April of 2017. A Moment Apart arrived the following September, featuring guest appearances by Regina Spektor, Leon Bridges, and Ry X. ~ David Jeffries | Apple Music

About Imagine Dragons
A Grammy Award-winning alt-rock outfit with a knack for crafting stylish, stadium-ready anthems as emotionally charged as they are radio-friendly, Las Vegas-based Imagine Dragons had their genesis in Provo, Utah, where vocalist Dan Reynolds met drummer Andrew Tolman while the two attended Brigham Young University. In 2009, the group, which by this time included guitarist Daniel Wayne Sermon, bass player Ben McKee, and Tolman’s wife Brittany Tolman on keys and backing vocals, had made a name for itself regionally and relocated to Reynolds’ hometown of Las Vegas to record a pair of well-received EPs (Imagine Dragons and Hell and Silence) at the Killers’ Battle Born Studios. A third EP, It’s Time, arrived the following year and helped land the group a record deal with Interscope. The Tolmans parted ways with the group prior to the Interscope deal, and Daniel Platzman took over on drums.
In 2012, Imagine Dragons hit it big with the Continued Silence EP and their debut long-player, Night Visions, the latter of which debuted at the number two spot on the Billboard 200 and landed the group multiple awards — it later went double platinum in the U.S., largely on the smash success of “Radioactive,” which became the biggest-ever digital rock track in America. During 2013, two other hits followed: “Demons” in the U.S. and “On Top of the World” elsewhere. The group spent the bulk of 2014 finishing its second album. Co-produced by Alex da Kid, Smoke + Mirrors, the band’s sophomore long-player, was released in February 2015 and debuted at number one, preceded by the singles “I Bet My Life” and “Shots.” The band toured often between June of 2015 and February of 2016, eventually releasing the concert set Smoke + Mirrors Live, recorded in 2015 at a sold-out Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
The group took a well-deserved hiatus in 2016, making only a few sporadic forays into the studio to record three songs for soundtracks: “Not Today” for Me Before You, “Sucker for Pain” for Suicide Squad, and “Levitate” for Passengers. Imagine Dragons also recorded songs for their third proper album, releasing the lead single “Believer” in January 2017. The album, entitled Evolve, was released that June; as the name suggests, it saw the band continuing to evolve, emphasizing EDM-flavored pop and positive vibes. In January 2018, the band teamed with up with singer Khalid for a mashup of their hits “Thunder” and “Young Dumb & Broke.” ~ James Christopher Monger | Apple Music

About Counting Crows
With their angst-filled hybrid of Van Morrison, the Band, and R.E.M., Counting Crows became an overnight sensation in 1994. Only a year earlier, the band was a group of unknown musicians, filling in for the absent Van Morrison at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony; they were introduced by an enthusiastic Robbie Robertson. Early in 1993, the band recorded its debut album, August and Everything After, with T-Bone Burnett. Released in the fall, it was a dark and somber record, driven by the morose lyrics and expressive vocals of Adam Duritz. The only uptempo song, “Mr. Jones,” became their ticket to stardom, and Counting Crows enjoyed a significant amount of success throughout the ’90s and beyond.
What made Counting Crows unique was how they were able to balance Duritz’s tortured lyrics with the sound of the late ’60s and early ’70s; it made them one of the few alternative bands to appeal to listeners who thought that rock & roll died in 1972. Recovering the Satellites followed in 1996, and “A Long December” was a Top Ten hit on both the Modern Rock and Adult Top 40 charts. The band issued the two-disc Across a Wire: Live in New York in 1998, and the following year saw the release of Counting Crows’ third studio album, This Desert Life. In the midst of recording and collaborating with Ryan Adams on his sophomore album, Gold, Duritz joined his band in the studio as well. The fruit of those sessions was the group’s Steve Lillywhite-produced fourth album, Hard Candy.
The next year saw the release of the best-of Films About Ghosts, and in 2004 Counting Crows reminded fans of their ability to write a hit single with “Accidentally in Love,” which appeared on the Shrek 2 soundtrack. Two years later, New Amsterdam: Live at Heineken Music Hall, recorded from a show on February 6, 2003, was made available to the public. In 2008 the band issued Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings, a concept record divided into two halves: the more rowdy, upbeat rock of Saturday night soundtracks and the mellow alt-country side of Sunday morning hangovers.
In 2009 the band parted ways with its longtime major-label home Geffen Records, but continued to tour and write new material as feverishly as ever. Duritz struggled with mental problems and prescription drug addiction following the split with Geffen, working on solo material that he released in part online. August and Everything After: Live at Town Hall, the band’s third official live album, was released in 2011. To tide fans over until the release of an album of new material, the band offered up a collection of cover songs entitled Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation) in 2012 and yet another live album, Echoes of the Outlaw Roadshow, the following year. While touring in 2013 the group started to write material for what would become its seventh album. Recorded at the end of 2013 with producer Brian Deck, Somewhere Under Wonderland saw release in September 2014. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine | Apple Music

To understand the colossal talents of Taylor Swift, flash back to where it all began: “Tim McGraw,” the then-16-year-old’s ode to her high school sweetheart. Plaintive, melodic, dense with rich imagery—the song, like the countless others she’s released since, is a view right into Swift’s soul. That is her gift: From the jaunty, melodic country of “Love Story” to the towering, hip-hop-infused pop of “Bad Blood” to her stellar 2019 duet with Brendon Urie “ME!,” Swift yanks you into her world with both hands, capturing the pain of a soured relationship or the triumph of moving to the big city with unbridled enthusiasm. And when she makes bold creative transformations, like declaring herself dead on “Look What You Made Me Do,” she does so with conviction and an acknowledgment that even though she’s only human, she’s the one in control.
