Counting Crows 2018 Tickets

H2>About Counting Crows

Counting Crows 2018 Upcoming Concert TicketsWith their angst-filled hybrid of Van Morrison, the Band, and R.E.M., Counting Crows became an overnight sensation in 1994. Only a year earlier, the band was a group of unknown musicians, filling in for the absent Van Morrison at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony; they were introduced by an enthusiastic Robbie Robertson. Early in 1993, the band recorded its debut album, August and Everything After, with T-Bone Burnett. Released in the fall, it was a dark and somber record, driven by the morose lyrics and expressive vocals of Adam Duritz. The only uptempo song, “Mr. Jones,” became their ticket to stardom, and Counting Crows enjoyed a significant amount of success throughout the ’90s and beyond.

What made Counting Crows unique was how they were able to balance Duritz’s tortured lyrics with the sound of the late ’60s and early ’70s; it made them one of the few alternative bands to appeal to listeners who thought that rock & roll died in 1972. Recovering the Satellites followed in 1996, and “A Long December” was a Top Ten hit on both the Modern Rock and Adult Top 40 charts. The band issued the two-disc Across a Wire: Live in New York in 1998, and the following year saw the release of Counting Crows’ third studio album, This Desert Life. In the midst of recording and collaborating with Ryan Adams on his sophomore album, Gold, Duritz joined his band in the studio as well. The fruit of those sessions was the group’s Steve Lillywhite-produced fourth album, Hard Candy.

The next year saw the release of the best-of Films About Ghosts, and in 2004 Counting Crows reminded fans of their ability to write a hit single with “Accidentally in Love,” which appeared on the Shrek 2 soundtrack. Two years later, New Amsterdam: Live at Heineken Music Hall, recorded from a show on February 6, 2003, was made available to the public. In 2008 the band issued Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings, a concept record divided into two halves: the more rowdy, upbeat rock of Saturday night soundtracks and the mellow alt-country side of Sunday morning hangovers.

In 2009 the band parted ways with its longtime major-label home Geffen Records, but continued to tour and write new material as feverishly as ever. Duritz struggled with mental problems and prescription drug addiction following the split with Geffen, working on solo material that he released in part online. August and Everything After: Live at Town Hall, the band’s third official live album, was released in 2011. To tide fans over until the release of an album of new material, the band offered up a collection of cover songs entitled Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation) in 2012 and yet another live album, Echoes of the Outlaw Roadshow, the following year. While touring in 2013 the group started to write material for what would become its seventh album. Recorded at the end of 2013 with producer Brian Deck, Somewhere Under Wonderland saw release in September 2014. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine | Apple Music

About Radiohead

At some point in the early 21st century, Radiohead became something more than a band: they became a touchstone for everything that is fearless and adventurous in rock, inheriting the throne from David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and the Talking Heads. The latter group gave the band its name — it’s an album track on 1986’s True Stories — but Radiohead never sounded much like the Heads, nor did they take much from Bowie apart from their willingness to experiment. Instead, they spliced Floyd’s spaciness with U2’s messianic arena-rock heft, bridging the gap with guitar skronk borrowed from the ’80s … more @ Apple Music

About Lizzo

Coming on smart, sassy, and strong, like an indie Missy Elliot, Minneapolis rapper and singer Lizzo arrived in the Twin Cities with a hard sound and stance, thanks to her Texas roots and time learning the ropes with crews like Atlanta’s Crime Mob. Born Melissa Jefferson in Houston and raised in Detroit, Lizzo earned her moniker when she joined the uniformly named members — Lexo, Nino, and Zeo — of the Cornroll Clique. A 2011 move to Minneapolis found her fronting Lizzo & the Larva Ink while joining the neo-TLC-type group the Chalice. Her work began to intertwine with the city’s indie scene, which included artists like Gayngs, Doomtree, Marijuana Deathsquads, and Har Mar Superstar; listening to a copy of Doomtree producer Lazerbreak’s album Lava Breaks brought her out of a long case of writer’s block.

Inspired by Lazerbreak’s work, she recorded the album Lizzobangers with the producer plus Gayngs member Ryan Olson. The album was released in 2013 on the Totally Gross National Product label. After making guest appearances on tracks by Prince & 3rdEyeGirl (“Boytrouble”), Clean Bandit (“New Eyes”), Bastille (“Torn Apart”), and Sean Anonymous & DJ Name (“Cold Shoulder”), Lizzo released her second full-length album, 2015’s Big GRRRL Small World, on her own BGSW label. In October 2016, Lizzo made her major-label debut with the EP Coconut Oil, which was released by Atlantic’s Nice Life imprint. The following year saw her drop the singles “Water Me” and “Truth Hurts,” with “Fitness” and “Boys” arriving the following year. In February 2019, Lizzo issued the title track from her full-length Cuz I Love You, whcih arrived later that April. ~ David Jeffries

    Apple Music African

Rooted in Africa, and brimming with worldwide appeal, Lagos-born Wizkid is perhaps the most globally renowned Afrobeats artist of his generation. Having built a profile throughout the 2000s with co-writing credits and feature spots, his fully established himself through his first two albums, the aptly-named Superstar (2011), followed by Ayo (2014). While he’s regularly linked up with superstars like Drake “(One Dance”; “Come Closer”), his footprint grew even further with mega singles like 2019’s “Brown Skin Girl” from Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift. Yet his clear anchorage to Africa is evident through whatever the does, an MO that’s enshrined in his critically acclaimed fourth studio album, 2020’s Made in Lagos.

Like his indelible “Rocket Man,” Elton John’s music occupies the upper echelon of the rock ‘n’ roll stratosphere. Snapping his singer/songwriter tethers early on, John soared to international superstardom beginning with 1970’s “Your Song.” The piano master’s hits are as stylistically ambitious as his fashion sense, from the unhinged ‘50s doo-wop swing of “Crocodile Rock” to the operatic sweep of “Tiny Dancer” to the cocksure groove of “Bennie and the Jets.” And John’s never left the public eye, releasing albums into the ‘10s and reinventing himself as a mature pop icon and LGBT advocate.

Janelle Monáe has established herself as one of the most vibrant and unique talents in contemporary R&B. Her songs may not dominate the charts, but she’s attracted the support of artists as powerful as Prince and Big Boi (who executive produced her GRAMMY®-nominated Bad Boy debut, The ArchAndroid), while her old-school sensibility, distinct visual style, and sharp songwriting has amassed a devoted fan base.
