Artist Spotlight: Black Sherif
Black Sherif, whose real name is Mohammed Ismail Sherif, was born and raised in Konongo, Ashanti Region, Ghana. He completed his secondary education at Konongo Odumase Senior High School.
Black Sherif gained widespread recognition in 2021 with his hit single “Money.” The song went viral on social media platforms, and its relatable lyrics about the struggles of everyday life resonated with listeners, particularly the youth in Ghana. He followed up with another successful single titled “Second Sermon,” which further solidified his place in the Ghanaian music industry.
Black Sherif draws inspiration from various genres, including hip-hop, drill, and highlife, while infusing his music with his local dialect, Twi. His style is characterized by introspective and thought-provoking lyrics that address social issues, youth experiences, and personal reflections.
Black Sherif’s rise to fame can be attributed to his grassroots approach to music promotion. Before gaining mainstream recognition, he released several freestyle videos and shared them on social media platforms. This strategy helped him build a dedicated fan base and caught the attention of industry professionals.
In 2021, Black Sherif released his debut extended play (EP) titled “Blacko.” The EP features tracks like “Ankonam,” “Cry for Me,” and “Ade Akye.” The project received positive reviews from both fans and critics and further cemented his position as one of Ghana’s promising young talents.
